Tell us why your fandom and/or pairing is awesome. Who knows, maybe you'll inspire someone else to get into it. You're welcome to share fandoms that were too small for this round as well. Feel free to link to relevant material, but please don't link to downloads or torrents.

Stargate Atlantis

Evan Lorne/Radek Zelenka: Let's be honest, SGA had a lot of awesome minor and recurring characters. Of these, Lorne and Zelenka, being the seconds-in-command to McKay and Sheppard, probably had the most screentime. I grew attached to them over the first few seasons, and then they had that great moment together in The Game in season 3. There were fics for the pairing here and there amidst all the McShep, then I befriended some of the awesome ladies writing it, and I had a new OTP.

I think one of the main draws of these two for me is that they both appeal to my competency kink. They're both obviously very good at what they do, so while Our Heroes are out blazing trails and getting up to wacky hijinks, Lorne and Zelenka are keeping Atlantis running and Getting Shit Done. To do this, they probably have to spend a fair bit of time together, which I think shows in the few scenes and background moments they have in the last couple of seasons.

I'm never sure how to articulate why they fit together so well in my head. We know that Evan is a painter and Radek used to raise racing pigeons. Evan grew up in San Francisco, while Radek grew up in Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia. Evan is a level-headed soldier with a little snarky side, and Radek can go toe-to-toe with McKay in science and sarcasm. I could go on with all kinds of details, but the gist is that I think they just plain complement one another. I like the idea of them finding stability in a relationship amongst the uncertainty of life in Pegasus.

I'm a little a lot biased, but I'd definitely recommend reading Lorne/Zelenka stories by kisahawklin, gblvr, and meansgirl.

DCU comics

Gar Logan (Beast Boy/Changeling)/Bart Allen (Impulse/Kid Flash): In DC, I am all about various incarnations of Teen Titans, and Young Justice. My OTP is Gar/Bart, and I can trace this obsession back to finding works by MsSolo (the one that I'm thinking of in particular doesn't seem to be online anymore). I hadn't seen anyone write the pairing before, but I already had an investment in both characters and somehow hadn't shipped them until that point. Once I saw it, though, I couldn't unsee it.

They both started out as sort of comic relief guys, the goofy little brothers of their respective teams. They're the ones who, even after growing up and changing, often still don't get taken seriously. They've both had a lot of loss. I love the idea of them bonding over these sorts of things and falling for one another. They have awesome potential for light-hearted romance, and equally for serious exploration of what's under the flippant facades the rest of the team rarely bother to see through.

I also ship Gar/Roy for similar reasons, and Gar/Bette Kane because Bette's awesome and they have great chemistry in the Beast Boy mini series from 2000 and the subsequent issues of the 1999-2000 run of The Titans in which they appeared.
